Migraines / Headaches

Migraine is a neurological syndrome characterized by a severe, throbbing headache in one half of the head accompanied by feelings of nausea. The typical migraine headache lasts from 4 to 72 hours; symptoms include nausea, vomiting, photophobia (increased sensitivity to light), and phonophobia (increased sensitivity to sound.) It can affect people of all ages and the cause is not fully known.
During an attack, the blood vessels in the brain dilate and then draw together with stimulation of nerve endings near the affected blood vessels. These changes to the blood vessels are probably what cause the pain, but migraine is still a condition that is poorly understood.
All sorts of things may trigger an attack - like certain foods, exercise, bright lights, loud noise or anxiety, but causal factors seem to vary from person to person.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic is concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. There is an emphasis on manual treatments including spinal manipulation or adjustment (World Federation of Chiropractic, 1999).
Chiropractors take an integrated and holistic approach to the health needs of their patients, considering physical, psychological and social factors. They provide care and support by reducing pain and disability and by restoring normal function to people with neuro-musculoskeletal disorders.

The Irlen Method

The Irlen Method involves the use of coloured overlays and Irlen Spectral Filters worn as glasses and contact lenses which have been shown to eliminate the effects of visual stress and visual fragmentation. This technology can improve reading fluency, comfort, comprehension, attention and concentration while reducing light sensitivity. This is not a method of reading instruction. It is a colour-based technology that filters out the offensive light waves, so the brain can accurately process visual information. Everyone’s brain is different and the key to success is determining the exact colour needed.

Coloured tinted lenses provided by others are not the same as Irlen Spectral Filters provided by the Irlen Method. Only certified Irlen Diagnosticians are trained to determine the specific frequencies to optimise performance from an almost limitless selection of filters.

The Irlen Method is a non-invasive, patented technology that uses colored overlays and filters to improve the brain’s ability to process visual information. It is the only method scientifically proven to successfully correct the processing problems associated with Irlen Syndrome.

Migraine is a fairly common condition, affecting about 20 per cent of females and 6 per cent of males in their lifetime.
Although it can come on later in life this is unusual. About 90 per cent of migraine sufferers have their first attack before they are 40.
Approximately one-third of people who suffer migraine headache perceive an aura - unusual visual, olfactory, or other sensory experiences that are a sign that the migraine will soon occur
