Irlen Syndrome

Individuals with Irlen Syndrome can be misdiagnosed as having dyslexia. This treatment involves the use of coloured overlays and Irlen Spectral Filters worn as glasses and contact lenses which have been shown to eliminate the effects of visual stress and visual fragmentation. This technology can improve reading fluency, comfort, comprehension, attention, and concentration while reducing light sensitivity. This is not a method of reading instruction. It is a color-based technology that filters out the offensive light waves, so the brain can accurately process visual information. Everyone’s brain is different and the key to success is determining the exact colour needed.

Colored tinted lenses provided by others are not the same as Irlen Spectral Filters provided by the Irlen Method. Only certified Irlen Diagnosticians are trained to determine the specific frequencies to optimize performance from an almost limitless selection of filters.

The Irlen Method corrects symptoms of visual stress and visual fragmentation that accompany many different conditions including: visual perception difficulties, acquired brain injuries, and certain medical and psychological conditions. We have many clients who have been misdiagnosed with AD/HD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders when the problem was actually Irlen Syndrome. Therefore, it would be appreciated if information about the Irlen Method was included under these headings, as well. Many individuals on the autism spectrum including autism and Asperger’s Syndrome experience visual fragmentation and sensory overload which are eliminated with the Irlen Method.

The Irlen Method is a non-invasive, patented technology that uses colored overlays and filters to improve the brain’s ability to process visual information. It is the only method scientifically proven to successfully correct the processing problems associated with Irlen Syndrome.
